The Rochester, NY  Hamfest... Our way!

Mon prénom est Bertrand et mes indicatifs de radioamateur sont VE2ZAZ et VA2IW. J'habite la région de l'Outaouais québécois. Mon localisateur de grille est FN25bk et l'altitude de la station est de 145m.

J'ai toujours été passionné par les télécommunications. Dès mon très jeune âge, le téléphone, la radio et la télévision me fascinaient. Mon père nous faisait entendre les ondes courtes sur  sa radio Telefunken Bajazzo. Les stations CW et SSB, les stations de brouillage, tout ces signaux m'intrigaient beaucoup.

Plus activement, je fais de la radio et de l'électronique depuis l'âge de 14 ans. Tout a commencé avec le C.B. (la bande de 11mètres) vers 1980. Je me suis vite rendu compte que j'en voulais encore plus. J'ai donc obtenu ma licence radioamateur de  base en 1984 et ma licence supérieure l'année suivante. C'est mon ami radioamateur Robert (VE2ASL) qui était mon mentor. Encore aujourd'hui nous partageons ensemble cette passion envers le hobby. Nous sommes d'ailleurs pris d'une maladie de dépendance aux marchés aux puces radioamateurs, ces fameux "hamfests".

Puisque j'étais aussi convaincu d'avoir trouvé "ma branche" pour une carrière professionnelle, j'ai étudié et  obtenu mon baccalauréat en génie électrique, option télécommunications bien sûr! Je travaille depuis 1989 chez Nortel Networks, présentement comme concepteur d'équipement de communication par fibre optique.

Je suis radio-actif sur HF, VHF, UHF et micro-ondes. Je communique tant en station mobile qu'en station fixe. Je suis particulièrement actif en EME (Moonbounce) sur 432MHz et j'aime les contests VHF/UHF terrestres. J'aime aussi concevoir et construire différents articles, antennes, radios, etc. pour ensuite les essayer sur les ondes. Un "vrai patenteux"! Parlez-en à mon épouse...

I have always had a passion for telecommunications. In my youngest age I was fascinated by telephone, radio and television. My father introduced me to shortwave radio on his Telefunken Bajazzo radio. CW and SSB stations, jamming stations, all these signals impressed me a lot.

More actively, I have been into radio and electronics since age 14. Everything started with C.B. (11meter band) around 1980. But I quickly realized that I wanted more of it. So I obtained my basic amateur radio certificate in 1984 and my advanced certificate the following year. My friend Robert (VE2ASL) was my mentor at the time. Still today, we share a passion for this hobby. Both of us are afflicted with a dependance for amateur radio fleamarkets, those famous "hamfests".

Since I was also convinced I had found the path for a professional career, I studied and obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, with a specialty in telecommunications of course! I have been working for Nortel Networks since 1989, and am currently doing fiber optics communication equipment design.

I am radio-active on HF, VHF, UHF and microwaves. I communicate both as mobile and fixed station. I am more active in EME (Moonbounce) on 432MHz and I like VHF/UHF terrestrial contests. I also design and assemble various articles, antennas, radios, etc. and test them over the air. A real "hacker"! Ask my wife about it...
